Fillers

There are numerous filler types on the market, which are permanent, semi-permanent or completely biodegradable. Over time it has been documented that fully biodegradable materials, such as hyaluronic acid (Restylane, Juvederm, Belotero etc.), hydroxyapatite (radiesse), poly-L-lactic acid (sculptra), polycaprolactone (ellanse), are the safest. The reason is that they do not induce immune reactions to the skin over time, therefore the risk of granulomas is minimised (unattractive nodules/bumps at the treatment sites)

How is the treatment performed?

The material is injected into the desired area. The treatment can be performed over the entire face. We may simply fill the wrinkles or add volume as required. Moreover, we can also enhance the natural symmetry of the face that declines with time and improve its contours. Results are immediately evident.

Is the treatment painful?

Usually, it is a well-tolerated treatment. In sensitive areas, such as lips and around the mouth, we can use an anaesthetic cream or dental local anaesthetic. Moreover, it is possible to apply hyaluronic acid containing a small quantity of anaesthetic in the same syringe, or mix the material with xylocaine.

Πως γίνεται η θεραπεία;

Πονάει η θεραπεία;

What does the face look like after the treatment?

Some bruises may appear, especially around the mouth. There may also be mild sensitivity or redness in the area for 2-3 days. Special medical make-up can be applied immediately after the treatment.

How long does the effect last?

It depends on the treated area. Usually, the procedure needs to be repeated every year, except for the lips that need to be treated every 6-9 months.

Is the treatment safe?

Hyaluronic acid is globally considered as the safest filler. Rarely have there been reported any adverse effects of the treatment. Allergies may occur very rarely (0.3/15,000 of the general population), therefore no allergy test is required before the treatment.

New fillers, such as Radiesse and Ellanse, have also proved to be highly safe to use.

Your doctor will advise you on the most appropriate filler for the individual needs of your face.

ATTENTION! Filler injections are a medical procedure. In order to be safe it must be performed by a qualified doctor who is knowledgeable of the face anatomy and the appropriate filler type for each facial area. There have been reports of cases with severe adverse effects, such as blindness, skin necrosis and permanent deformation. Always request the adhesive label attached to every material syringe, so that you know the type and quantity of material used.

When is it contraindicated?

If you have experienced any reaction after a previous filler application, you should report it. The dermatologist will assess its severity and decide if the treatment may be repeated.

Caution is required if you are not aware of the material that was used in previous treatments. If permanent or semi-permanent material have been injected into the skin, the use of hyaluronic acid in the same area may cause the older material to form granulomas.

Therefore, you should always request the adhesive label attached to every material syringe, so that you know the type and quantity of material used.

If you take anticoagulant and/or anti-inflammatory drugs, you may experience some bruising after the treatment.

Let your doctor know if you suffer from any disease or take any drugs and nutrition supplements.

New developments – The Micro-cannula Technique

An exciting development in hyaluronic acid applications is the use of micro-cannula, namely an atraumatic, blunt tip needle, which leaves tissues and vessels undisturbed.

It is the best imaginable treatment technique, especially for sensitive areas with dense vascularisation, such the eye contour.

Micro-cannulas offer highly safe treatment and largely prevent bruising.

Moreover, the result is more uniform, more natural and longer lasting.
