Scars are marks created by surgical incisions, injuries or skin disorders, such as acne. There are atrophic scars which are pitted in the skin and prominent hypertrophic scars. Stretch marks are red (recent) or white lines that are usually formed in areas where the skin is stretched, e.g. during pregnancy and puberty, weight gain and loss or after extended use of cortisone.
In order to gradually improve these aesthetic problems, different types of LASERs are used. Those targeting the dermis and fibroblasts stimulate collagen production (collagenesis), while the most efficient are fractional lasers, which significantly improve scars and white stretch marks.
Pulse-dye LASER that targets the vessels improves red scars. Recent red stretch marks improve considerably and may even disappear.
